Curiosity Could Lean You to New Discoveries

Most of the time, curiosity could lead any person to a new knowledge and adventure. Look around you, have you ever asked yourself how things are created? Like for example those DVD movies and games on your CD/DVD rack. Pick up one and observe how its colors differ from the DVD-R discs you bought for your personal burning purposes. A reflective silver surface is what you could see on your DVD movies and other DVDs you bought in record bars while your blank DVD-R would emit a purple surface.

This may sound very technical for you but we will try to make as understandable to you especially for those who are still clueless when it comes to this matter. The way these item go through manufacturing process is the main reason. Almost all of DVD movies and games in record bars went through the process of replication? Process of what?! You may often hear the term CD/DVD duplication but there is actually a CD/DVD replication which is quite different from the latter.

From the master disc which all copies should come from, the information on that master copy is set to getting stamped out onto a special layer using a glass master. Sandwiching the dye which contains the information in between two pieces of strengthened polycarbonate will protect the disc from scratches. When you look through the polycarbonate layers, this is where you would see a specific silvery color. Choosing CD/DVD replication could hurt your pocket a bit but it won’t if your quantity requirement is relatively high. This is why replication is not recommended for short run of CDs or DVDs.

Now, how do your blank DVDs got a different color? Simple, though the process is the same, the dye layer sandwiched between the polycarbonate discs does not contain any information, hence the term blank media. Once you burn some information on it, it will slightly change its color.

Isn’t it great to learn new things just by being curious?
